We came in third last year. This year we’re aiming for FIRST. Our crew is hard at work constructing a lean, mean rowing machine. Come on out and cheer us on!

We read mostly fiction and genre fiction in July, including quite a few Young Adult (YA) novels. One staffer in Young People’s Services immersed herself in children’s poetry. Enjoy!
ALL FALL DOWN by Jennifer Weiner (FIC; Audio Book; Large Type) • I have seen this book at the top of many “beach reads” lists – as well it should be. It is about a mom who is having trouble balancing her “perfect” life: a handsome husband, an adorable little girl, a job she loves… One day, while waiting in her doctor’s office, she happens upon a magazine quiz about addiction. Too many “yes” answers make her wonder if pills are too important in her life. Vicodin, after all, was prescribed by her own doctor. But that is just the beginning of her addiction. A very enjoyable book. I was sorry it had to end. ~ Debbie, Popular Materials
ALL-NEW X-MEN VOL. 4: ALL-DIFFERENT by Brian Michael Bendis (YA GN)
AMERICANAH by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (FIC)
ARCHETYPE by M.D. Waters (SF)
CYADOR’S HEIRS by L. E. Modesitt (FAN)
ELEGY FOR EDDIE by Jacqueline Winspear (MYS; Audio Book)
I’m reading GOD LESS AMERICA by Todd Starnes (323.442 S795), a book that I requested. The subtitle is REAL STORIES FROM THE FRONT LINES OF THE ATTACK ON TRADITIONAL VALUES. My sister-in-law read it first and told me every Christian should read it. I’m going a step further and saying everyone should read it!

It is back to school time, and time to rethink what might go into those lunchboxes and brown bags for the boys and girls to eat. A number of newer titles are available at the Elkhart Public Library, emphasizing quick and easy meals, as well as healthy ones. Ideas and recipes abound, from those promising to be kid-approved to those for vegan and gluten-free diets. Try something new in the brown bag and re-energize your children for an afternoon of learning.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who borrowed eBooks and audio eBooks in June!
Because of you, we won $2,500 to use for building our digital collection.
To raise awareness of digital library lending, Overdrive, EPL’s digital media supplier, offered $2,500 in content credit as an incentive for libraries to increase eBook/audio eBook circulation by 50% during June. For us, that would have been 1,911 downloads. You came through! Our final total was 1,975 – a 55% increase. We win; you win! Watch for an influx of new titles, coming soon.
