Read, Learn, Win!

  • Starting June 1, visit any EPL location to sign up and pick up a reading log.
  • Read at least 15 minutes a day for 4 days.
  • Do 2 fun and simple learning activities.
  • Bring your log back to the library for your prize!
  • Repeat!

You can earn a different prize every week, plus win a book when you finish 4 logs! Every time you come back for your next prize, you will be entered in our end-of-summer grand prize drawing for a new bicycle! The more you read, the more prizes you win, and the better your chances for winning the bike.

Every Hero Has a Story

Not all heroes wear capes and masks. This summer we will learn about different kinds of heroes, with plenty of opportunities to be a superhero, yourself!

Travel with a Superhero!

Dunlap Branch • Take a Superhero on Vacation
Pick up a superhero at the Dunlap Branch to take with you on vacation. Take a picture of you and your superhero. When you get home, bring the picture to the Branch and we will post it.

You Can Be a Hero, Too!

Osolo Branch  Animal Shelter Donation Drive
Be a hero to our furry and feathered friends. Donate food and supplies at the Osolo Branch for the Elkhart County Humane Society.

Art Contest!

Main Library Superhero Art Contest
Kids, bring your artwork to the Children’s Room by Friday July 3 Wednesday, July 15. Your creations will be displayed through July, and judged in five categories: ages 0-5, ages 6-8, ages 9-11, ages 12-14, and ages 15-17. Submissions must be your own work, in good taste, and nicely displayed in a frame — or on a board, if 3D, and must include an entry form (available at the Children’s desk). Prizes will be awarded at our Super Hero Delight program on August 3.

Big Library Read: Anatomy of a Misfit

Administrator : October 13, 2014 8:56 am : Elkhart Public Library, Teens

SL-BLR-Oct2014

OverDrive’s latest Big Library Read  is  ANATOMY  OF A MISFIT,  a Young Adult novel by bestselling author Andrea Portes. This global reading event will run from October 13-28.

Starting October 13, Elkhart Public Library card holders can download ANATOMY OF A MISFIT from our digital library, with unlimited access to the eBook until the morning of October 28. No holds, no waiting!

To borrow the title, you will need a resident Elkhart Public Library card and an Internet-connected electronic device such as a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Go to downloads.myepl.org.  ANATOMY OF A MISFIT will be featured prominently on our digital home page, ready for check-out from October 13-28.

About the book

Andrea Portes is best known for her adult fiction.  ANATOMY OF A MISFIT is her first Young Adult novel.

Anika is the third most popular girl in her high school–despite feeling she doesn’t fit in with the popular crowd in her small Nebraskan town. To maintain her social status, Anika does whatever Becky Vilhauser (first most popular girl in school) tells her to do. But when loner Logan McDonough returns from summer vacation hotter, and more mysterious than ever, Anika has a hard time staying away–even when Becky forbids her to date him.

Anika’s glimpse into Logan’s troubled home life only draws her closer, but despite her blossoming feelings, Anika breaks up with him. In an emotionally devastating ending, Anika is left in the wake of tragedy, which leaves her with the revelation that we have only one chance to be true to ourselves, and nothing is more important than listening to your own heart.  ANATOMY OFA MISFIT is based on Andrea Portes’ real-life experiences as a teenager.

OverDrive, EPL’s digital content provider, offers Big Library Read several times a year,
making the same book simultaneously available to cardholders of all participating libraries.

  • Go to myepl.org/info247.
  • Find “Language” on the list.

    • OR Click the “Start Learning” button to use Mango without creating a profile.
  • Select a language course or click on the “Translate” tab, which uses the Google translation tool to interpret the ‘gist’ of conversations from one language to another. It is not a substitute for human translations.

Try the first lesson in any language on the Try Mango page.
NOTE: While it is helpful to have a microphone for a more interactive experience, you can benefit from the lessons without one.

Mango in Action

Administrator : July 16, 2013 11:19 am : Elkhart Public Library, Teens

EPL SliderForget your library card? Now we can scan it from your smartphone! Just download an app and photograph your card. Voila! You have your Library barcode wherever you have your phone.

There are a number of “loyalty” or “rewards” card apps available.  Key Ring is one of them. It is well-reviewed, user-friendly and available for most smartphones. Go to www.keyringapp.com for more information, and to download it to your Android or iPhone. Key Ring is also available for Blackberry and Windows phones:

Key Ring – Blackberry
Key Ring – Windows

For other “loyalty” or “rewards” card apps, check Google Play (Android), the App Store (iPhone), Blackberry App World or the Windows App Store. These are generally accessible directly from your phone.

Once your barcode is on your phone, you can use it just as you would your Elkhart Public Library card.
